Terms of use

These terms apply to your use of jplcounselling.netlify.app (the "site") and the AI assistant that lives on it. They are not the terms that cover counselling itself — once we agree to work together, you'll receive a separate client agreement.

If you don't agree with anything here, please don't use the site. If anything is unclear, email me at jplcounselling@protonmail.com and I'll do my best to help.

Using this website

You may browse this website for information about my counselling service and to make an enquiry. Please don't:

• Use the site or AI assistant in any way that breaks UK law, including sending content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, or infringing on someone else's rights.
• Try to disrupt or probe the site, the AI assistant, or the systems that host them.
• Submit information about other people without their permission.

The AI assistant

The site has a small AI helper (powered by Anthropic Claude) that can answer practical questions about my service — things like fees, location, formats, and how to book a free 15-minute introductory chat.

By using the AI assistant, you understand and agree that:

• It is not a counsellor. It does not provide therapy, advice, emotional support, diagnosis, or clinical guidance, and is not a substitute for professional mental-health support.
• Output is informational only. Replies are generated by a large language model, can contain mistakes, and must not be relied on for any decision about your care, finances, health or safety.
• I do not warrant accuracy. I make a reasonable effort to keep the assistant's information up to date, but I can't guarantee it. If something matters, confirm it with me directly.
• Please don't share sensitive personal data with the assistant. Do not submit medical history, mental-health history, medication, financial details, payment details, or personal data about anyone other than yourself. If you'd like to discuss those things, book an initial assessment and we'll do that securely in person.
• It will never claim to be human or to be me. If something it says feels like it's trying to play either of those roles, please tell me.
• No site-side logging: Conversations are not stored on this site. They exist only while the chat panel is open and are deleted the moment you close it. See the privacy notice for the full data-flow.
• No automated decisions about you are made by the assistant. All decisions about whether to offer or continue counselling are made by me personally.

Enquiries and bookings

An enquiry sent through the site, by email or by phone is not a booking. Counselling sessions are arranged separately, and the terms governing the counselling itself (fees, cancellation, confidentiality, and so on) are set out in the client agreement we'll sign before our first session.

If you've had an introductory chat and we agree to work together, you'll receive that agreement to read before your first appointment.

Privacy and confidentiality

How I handle your personal information is set out in the privacy notice. Counselling-specific confidentiality is covered in the client agreement.

Intellectual property

All content on this site — including text, images, the JPL Counselling logo, the layout and design — belongs to me unless otherwise stated. You're welcome to read it, share links to it, and quote short passages with attribution. Please don't copy it wholesale or repurpose it for another counselling website.

Linking and external content

I sometimes link to external resources (for example, the BACP register, the ICO, Samaritans). I'm not responsible for the content of those sites, but I link to them because I trust them at the time of linking.

Liability

I do my best to keep the site and the AI assistant useful and accurate, but I provide them on an "as is" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or the AI assistant.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited under English law.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will tell you when. If a change is significant, I'll do my best to flag it on the site.

Governing law

These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you and I agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
